Please join Friends of Homer the Homeless Goose to celebrate his 23rd Birthday at the Austin Zoo this Friday, April 1st from 4 – 6 pm.
“In the 1980s, the Austin fowl grabbed headlines when local homeless activists threatened to eat him unless city leaders agreed to a meeting about homelessness. He survived, met Willie Nelson, went to the 1988 Democratic National Convention and spent several months on a raft in Lady Bird Lake with two human companions protesting homelessness.” Here’s a link to Homer’s story:

Lori Renteria, the woman who cared for Homer before me moved to J&M aviaries will be hosting the celebration. We will have a birthday cake (baked by Zookeeper Michelle Kauffman) and cookies for the goose that captured the attention of city officials two decades ago.

Enjoy Austin Zoo throughout the year by purchasing a Season Pass.
